Although I haven’t made the time to write a book review, I’ve been reading so much lately. I think the work I’ve been doing on Herophile’s story + my weekly class assignments are good excuses for my lack of book reviews. Nonetheless, I missed the process of writing about a story I enjoyed reading.

I'm 24 years of age, and I am getting into comic books. I'm not ashamed. Anyway, the comic / graphic novel is called Far Sector. It is a miniseries in the DC Comics Green Lantern franchise, written by (you might have guessed it) N. K. Jemisin and illustrated by Jamal Campbell. Clearly, I found my way to Far Sector by way of my love for Jemisin. Seeking a lighthearted read after an intense re-read of her Broken Earth trilogy, I was thrilled to find all of my favorite Jemisin story elements at play in a new and engaging format. Jemisin's signature prose, worldbuilding and character development partnered with the colorful and action-packed imagery of Campbell's art is (for lack of a better word) awesome! I read the comic series on my kindle, and doing this made the experience feel like I was reading an action movie.

Of course, the actual story of Far Sector was amazing too! — “The City Enduring, a booming metropolis at the edge of the universe, hasn’t experienced a violent crime in generations. I now have an addiction to feed — Afro-futuristic graphic novels / comic books. Next stop, the graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower.
